Finance information

In short
  • Mira is a trading name of General Insurance Distribution Ltd, a credit broker authorised by the FCA (FRN 510212), and of Motorsync Ltd, the technology company behind the Mira App, Mira Marketplace and MIRA Business.
  • Mira introduces you to the firm named on each car, which arranges your finance with its lenders. Mira is not a lender and does not decide on your application.
  • Our figures are a guide, not an offer. Finance is subject to status.
  • We never ask for your bank details.

Who we are

Mira is a trading name of General Insurance Distribution Ltd and Motorsync Ltd.

GID Ltd

General Insurance Distribution Ltd

The credit broker for finance on Mira. It introduces you to the firm that arranges your finance. It is not a lender.

Motorsync Ltd

Motorsync Ltd

The technology company that builds and runs the Mira App, Mira Marketplace and MIRA Business. It does not arrange or provide finance and is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.

  • Registered in England and Wales, company no. 11752015
  • 5 Maltby Court, Leeds, LS15 9BA

Who arranges your finance

Each car on Mira shows the firm that arranges its finance, with its FCA number. That firm is:

  • the dealer selling the car, when the dealer is authorised and arranges its own finance
  • the dealer's partner broker, when the dealer works with one
  • our partner broker, CarMoney (FRN 674094), when the dealer is not on Mira

You see the firm's name, FCA number and address on the car page and again before you apply. That firm receives your application, checks whether you are eligible and searches its panel of lenders. The lender makes the final decision. Mira does not lend money or decide on your application.

Our figures are a guide

The calculator, monthly payments and representative examples on Mira come from the firm that arranges the finance on that car. They are a guide, not an offer. The rate you are offered depends on your circumstances and the lender's assessment. Finance is subject to status.

What we collect and what we keep

When you apply, our guided application asks for:

  • About you: title, name, date of birth, email address and mobile number
  • More about you: marital status, driving licence type and whether you hold a valid UK passport
  • Where you live: your current and previous addresses, how long you lived at each, and whether you own or rent. We find your address from your postcode.
  • Your work: your job status, employer, job title, monthly income and how long you have been there, with previous jobs where needed
  • The finance: the car's price, your deposit, the term and your monthly budget

We confirm your email address and mobile number with a code. We never ask for your bank details.

What we keep after you apply

WhatWhy we keep it
The car you applied for (make, model, registration, mileage and similar)To match your application to the car and the dealer
A record of each consent you gave, with the date and time, and the firm you gave it toTo show what you agreed to
Your application's progress, the firm's reference number and the messages between you and the firmSo you can follow your application in the app

We keep these for 6 years after your application, because the law allows claims for that long.

What we pass on and do not keep

Your addresses, job details, income and the finance amounts go to the firm arranging your finance. We hold them, encrypted, only until that firm confirms it has your application, then we delete them. If the firm's system cannot be reached, we keep them a little longer so we can try sending again, then delete them.

Your account

Your title, name, date of birth, email address and mobile number are your Mira account details. Applying creates the account if you do not already have one, so you and the firm arranging your finance can follow your application and you can sign in to Mira. You can delete it at any time in Settings. We then keep only what the law requires, for the periods on this page, no longer linked to you.

What happens to your application

  1. You agree to the terms and to sharing your details, including a credit check by the firm arranging your finance.
  2. We send your application securely to that firm only.
  3. The firm checks your eligibility with a soft search, which does not affect your credit score, and searches its panel of lenders.
  4. The firm may ask to verify your identity.
  5. The firm or the lender contacts you with a decision. You can follow your application in the Mira app.

Identity checks

If the firm asks to verify your identity, it uses a secure identity check in the app. It works from photos of your ID, a selfie or short face video, and the name, date of birth, document number and dates read from your ID.

We keep your face photos, face video and the check provider's raw result for 30 days after the check ends, then delete them. We keep the ID photos, the details read from your ID and the check report for 5 years, because the law on preventing fraud and money laundering requires it. We also record when you gave consent to the check and from which device.

How we look after your details

Your name, contact details, date of birth and identity details are encrypted when stored, and everything is encrypted when sent. Only the firm arranging your finance, and the few people at Mira who support your application, can see your details. We do not sell your details.

General Insurance Distribution Ltd and Motorsync Ltd are responsible for your data on Mira. The firm arranging your finance is responsible for the data you give it once it receives your application.

Read the General Insurance Distribution Ltd privacy policy and the Motorsync Ltd privacy policy.

Commission

General Insurance Distribution Ltd may receive a commission from the firm that arranges your finance when you take out an agreement through Mira. It does not change the price you pay for the car. Ask us if you would like to know whether we are paid and how much.

The firm arranging your finance may also receive commission from the lender. It explains this in its own initial disclosure document, linked on the car page.

The firm's own documents

The firm arranging your finance publishes its own documents. Mira links to them on the car page and before you apply:

  • initial disclosure document
  • complaints procedure
  • privacy policy
  • terms and conditions
